| What's the Buzz About Overton Homes, Inc ? |
Dave,
I am writing to you as a happy neighbor of one of your newly completed projects. Now that the house is in and occupied, I felt it was time to register our comments - all good! The project I am referring to is the new, beautiful single family detached home on Live Oak Drive in Silver Spring, MD. It is 3 houses uphill from our house.
The project started out with a disaster for an earlier neighbor whose home was destroyed by a 75 year old plus maple tree that fell the night hurricane Katrina blew through our street. A number of trees fell that night and were cleaned up right away, but the home that got crunched lived on under a house sized blue tarp for two years. Its hard to complain about another's hardship but there seemed to be no activity to get beyond the blue tarp! Once it was purchased by Overton Homes, the house was finally cleared off and the lot fenced. Our concerns about safety and the appearance of the site were immediately resolved!
Gradually we become aware of the development of the new house. A 'For Sale' sign gave us a web site of possible home designs and people who called were given the information they sought. The construction process was encouraging - each step progressed quickly without complaints - at least I never heard any! Each sub-contractor was courteous and unobtrusive. I work from home and I was never aware that anything was going on beyond the usual delivery trucks, etc.
The design of the house is incredible - despite the size of the house, the front facade doesn't appear any bigger than the other houses on the street. The stone work and detailing is unique, but again - it fits right in. I was glad you could preserve the little free standing garage in back - a small reminder of the past. You know my concerns about the tree in front, time will tell if it should have come down earlier or not.
Thanks for a really quality addition to our neighborhood. In a part of the world where older neighborhoods are besieged with McMansions - we lucked out with a perfect fit!
Best of luck - we hope to see you at work near here again!

"It has now been more than 8 months since we moved in the new Overton home on Upton Drive. Frankly, it has been the nicest house I have lived in since moving to the Washington area in late 1988, almost 20 years ago.
The layout and space available has made raising my twin toddlers much easier. They each have their own bedroom and have learned crawling and walking in the spacious
rooms with smooth and clean hardwood floors. I never had to worry about a splinter or
hidden danger in the clean open spaces.
Last week, we gave a party for a friend leaving for an overseas assignment. The more
than 100 guests were able to comfortably spread out through the main floor – sitting
room, dining room and living room. Downstairs, a clown was entertaining 25 children in
the huge game room."

"Overton Builders are good neighbors before
the first shovel of dirt is filled."
"The Overton team and its subcontractors recently spent six months building a new home next to me. Owner Dave came and introduced himself to me the first time he noticed that I was home. When site boss Mark arrived he immediately told me that he wanted to be a good neighbor and that if I had any concerns that I was immediately to let him know.
The relationship that was formed worked both ways, and I was able to help the crew and was also helped on a couple of tasks myself. I found it fascinating to see an empty lot become a hole that then turned into a home. Just like the Overton team, my new neighbors have continued to be good neighbors."

"Having the house go up right next door really wasn't a bother at all, even though our bedroom windows overlook the house and even though we're not especially early risers. We were out of town when the old house was demolished, but we've been here through all phases of construction. The few times we talked with workers on the job, they were courteous and helpful. We've been pleasantly surprised by how very little disruption the whole process has entailed.
Thanks to Dave for talking with the tree man about our trees and for compensating us for the water that's needed to preserve the new landscaping."

“Bill and I purchased a new home in Woodside Park built by Overton Homes. We contracted for the property within days of the foundation being dug and got an “up close and personal” view of the company, and the entire process from the hole in the ground to the finished product. We figured we’d never be new home buyers but we truly love the home they built and it sure beat going through a major renovation on our old home!
Dave and the Overton Homes team were reliable, professional, personable and a pleasure to work with. We settled on time, to the day. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a new home in the area.”

Once just an Overton Homes groupie, now a satisfied Overton Homeowner
When my old house started bursting at the seams, it became evident that my family and I would need something larger. Although we’re not fans of new construction in general – new houses typically seem flimsy, poorly-conceived, incompatible with the existing neighborhood, and just plain lacking in soul (no McMansion for me, thanks) – the first place we turned was to Overton Homes, Inc. I had toured about a dozen of their new constructions and superbly-renovated properties over the last three years so I was very familiar with their quality workmanship and the special attention they take in creating a home to complement its environment.
From impressive Managing Partner Dave Kahn with his diligence, keen eye for detail and insistence upon perfection; to Forman Mark, (“If you need anything, just call!”) a powerhouse who keeps the construction process running like clockwork; to the artistry and craftsmanship of the talented Segundo – what a team is Overton!
Little by little, we’ve met all our new neighbors and nearly every one of them talks about their trepidation when construction on my house started. Then they mention their relief (and happiness!) at having a beautiful new home on their street which upholds the integrity of the neighborhood without overpowering it.
Our family is finally settled in and we all agree – our new home is solid, dependable and very classy - just like the Overton Team! |
