The story of Overton Homes, Inc begins in 2002 when Dave Kahn decided to focus on infill development, primarily in close-in
Silver Spring.
“Working with Liz Brent of Evers & Co (who has called downtown Silver Spring home for 11 years), gave us the opportunity to understand how important our involvement with the community could be; using each site to its best advantage and building new homes that would be assets to the neighborhood and complement the existing streetscape.”
Dave believes that infill development is a necessary part of keeping
an existing community vibrant. Over generations, some homes improve while others deteriorate. Neglected homes tend to drag down entire blocks. Those are the homes Overton looks to with an eye for elevating them to the current standards of consumer preference. Sometimes that’s
accomplished by replacing a structure that can’t be re-used; sometimes it’s taking a home down to its bare bones and rebuilding it to today’s standards.
“New construction typically tries to maximize interior space with little regard for the details of how a house actually becomes a home. The smaller details live inside. We realized that what was needed, and what made business sense, was to focus on quality while remaining true to the character of
the neighborhood.”
With 18 projects to date, Overton devotes an ever-increasing amount of attention to siting, design,
and neighborhood compatibility - keeping in mind the diverse streetscape and the older, surrounding
homes, while creating something unique and complementary.
